MU 0.97k - Client Source + Native Linux Server Source

Hello everyone.

I'm sharing the source code of my MU Online 0.97k project, which includes:

  • A native Linux server, prepared to run with Docker + MySQL.
  • The reconstructed/decompiled MU 0.97k client source.
  • Matching client and server versions linked through Git tags/releases, making it easy to identify which versions are compatible with each other.

The main goal of this project is to preserve the classic MU 0.97k base while making it easier to study, compile, modify, and maintain on modern systems.

Native Linux Server Source

Repository:

The server runs natively on Linux and includes the configuration required to set up the environment using Docker + MySQL.

In addition to the game server environment, the project includes two additional containers:

  • A web application adapted to work with the server.
  • A server editor integrated into the website's administration panel.

Before compiling or running the server, please check the repository README and the installation guides.

MU 0.97k Client Source

Repository:

This project contains the reconstructed source code of the MU 0.97k client, obtained from the original executable through reverse engineering and decompilation.

The Linux server and client versions are linked through their corresponding Git tags/releases.

When downloading a version, please make sure that the client and server tags match.

Compatibility with Kayito's Windows Server / MuEmu

The client is also compatible with Kayito's MuEmu 0.97k Windows server source:

This means that the client can be used with:

  • My native Linux server.
  • Kayito's MuEmu 0.97k Windows server.

Documentation / Installation Guides

Complete installation and configuration documentation is available in three languages:

English

Español

Português do Brasil

The documentation covers the requirements, installation process, and configuration needed to get the project running.

Important - Tags and Versions

Before downloading or compiling the project, please check the tags/releases of both repositories.

Client and server versions are tagged accordingly, making it easy to identify which versions are intended to work together.

Credits / Special Thanks

Special thanks to Kayito for his work on the MU 0.97k Windows server source:

His work was also extremely important during the reconstruction of the client.

In particular, special thanks for providing the IDA IDB database and documented offsets, which served as fundamental references during the reverse engineering, decompilation, and reconstruction of the MU 0.97k client.

A significant part of this project would not have been possible without Kayito's previous work, research, and documentation.

I hope these sources are useful to anyone interested in studying, preserving, or developing on top of the classic MU Online 0.97k version.

Bug reports, fixes, and contributions are welcome through the Issues section of the corresponding GitHub repositories.

I would love to work with you on MU. Check my posts & shoot me a message if you're interested. I think we could do some awesome stuff together for this game. I like your approach and I think you could be an awesome part of the project we are building.

Either way, best of luck with your work, and thank you for helping preserve older versions of these games.
