OdinMS Stability

As rydahms is struggling to handle 1k players without lag or crashes. I still do think servers which say they can last up to 1 month with no restart is b.s. I doubt stability will get fixed ever.

it could be... if someone was good enough to start from nothing and doing it right... without copying anything from odin.... but i guess that wont be the odin source then.. so you're right odin will never be stable enough to hold 1k players for a month...

You need to get your head out of this section more often.. All I'm going to say is 2 words... Celino Online.

Does anyone here actually take college level coding classes? I mean if we had people who actually knew what they were doing beyond MAPLE maybe it would be fixed.

There's someone who's thinking. usually, College students are more educated then us, so I'd be happy to see someone actually taking a part in MapleStory xD.

Timers/deadlocks possibly the main ones. I still doubt Odin would ever hold up to 1k players with no crash and lag for 1 month.

Sparks, how long can celino hold up till a crash? Rate of online people aswell.

Quite honestly, we've never had a crash. Sure at first since it was up the first month, before Lai recoded it, once that was done, up to date (6 or so months later) we have yet to see a crash due to Odin.

Lai has managed to recode most of the structure, and we're pushing 600 online (that's because we're not that popular yet). I think the most we've ever ran a server before putting it down for updates, was.. 3 weeks?

And even then, after 2 weeks the way Lai managed to recode it, it was only using up 2.2 gigs of Memory.

I have no doubt in my mind, that when it becomes more popular and we get easy over 1000 players online at once. We can push 2 months without crashes or any sort of downtime (that is.. assuming that FranTech doesn't get any DDoS Attacks in that time).

The timer issue is because of buffs and monster respawns so as you get more players online doing more buffs and killing more monsters the chances of the timer getting full increases, including the fact that having all the scheduled things is a terrible idea, I think it's possible to blame the poor use of the timer for our instability issues.

I don't get why people always talk about OdinMS or Java when they want to complain about instability. OdinMS is dead, it was a server that was in constant development. They got sued before fixing all their bugs and ****. If you can't code Java to get your server stable shut down your server.

My server was online for 4 days without spawns getting fucked or anything, then we shut it down to apply some updates. I don't know how long it would have been up if we wouldn't have shutdown, it didn't use lots of memory at that time. But that's already enough for me, I usually restart it at least once in 2 days to apply updates.
Lailai's server is incredible stable but he also worked hard for it and didn't blame Java and hoped it'll fix itself.

Most of the sources ar e based off it. why can we not complain about it, 4 days? 5 people online?

I bet your server had 10-20 online that's all.
