Re: Operating System

Hello Ragezone...

Could we install and run a p server under nux ? (debian)

You cant run the server files under linux (you would have to port the source, but as I see your question i dont think you could do this)

Best choice atm is Windows Server Standard 2008 R2 (which is the server edition of windows 7)

As SQl Server is can suggest SQL Server 2008 R2 as its designed to work best with that operating system.

Schnitz, my friend told me that xLethal server 'Monster Flyff' is using a Linux server by hosting their server. But I'm not pretty sure with it if he's telling the truth.

To lordcasquenoir, yes you can but not easily as Window because window server is the basic server that run a Flyff server.

I did not say its impossible. I only said HE cant do it.

I want to see someone running an sql server on a debian dedi. [maybe possible with wine but you still need to know what your doing to get a chance]

But there is a possibility of xornet porting the files to debian but using seperate dedi for the database (but i dont think they did it.)

If you want to run a flyff pserver on linux you need to rewrite the server executables as they are made for windows. So it is possible but you will have an enormous amount of work. So I think nobody will do this.

Well, according to what Improved said (I think it was him), it's not that difficult, but you have to know what you're doing. C++ programs can be compiled on Linux, but he said you'd have to change all 'managed functions' to 'un-managed functions'
I have no idea what that means or how difficult it is, but that's what he said.

So let give the easy answer for the person who's asking about this thread.

I recommend to use Windows as your OS with the minimum ram of 2gb :D

That's all. Question has been answered.

Lol the worldserver on it self already needs about 800mb ram on my pc, so with the other servers next to it about 1500 mb I think. Then you have your operating system and some critical processes, then I think your ram is almost full. So 2GB is not really enough if you also want some players in your server.
Next to that is that we were having a nice discussion so please do not act like you are a moderator helper or so and that this thread should be closed. You have been very much like this lately in threads, please change that attitude.

Langstra is mostly right. World server + database server (the 2 that use the most ram) can total to around 1-1.2 GB in RAM. As long as you're using a Server version of Windows, the OS usage will be pretty minimal, maybe around 300 MB. You can also limit the max RAM usage for SQL server, so it doesn't eat up what's left. 2GB could work, but BARELY at best
