[Question]About a dedicated server

I am looking to make my server dedicated.Now im not sure how much power i will be needing.I am thinking about 500 player's online so with that what should i run?Would a single core run that many with no lag or would i have to host a duel core?Of course money is a issue.

operating system? You're gonna pay quite a bit of money for that server. Maybe you should consider starting small and working big with donations.

well right now im working of a athlone 64x processor 1 gig ram and a 30gig harddrive.i can hold 80 player's with out much lag.So my question preety much is what can i go up to from here and make it beter with mnore player's as alot more player's want to get on.

single core >2,4Ghz will do. the more ram the more uptime, the more bandwidth the less lag. as simple as that.
