Re: priston tale server startup

Regarding ... When Trance is editing the IP, is that with MadEdit? Because that's what it looks like. I used that to edit the IP in bobsobol's ZPT client to connect locally, and then to try and have my friends connect. Problem is, it seems to corrupt the exe when I do that, and only one person can connect to the server or everyone gets a mesh error and gets DC'd. How can you edit the IP in the exe and save without corrupting it?

Okay... I saved you getting infracted for adding to an ancient thread. ;)

It's not MadEdit... HxD maybe? Make sure you "overwrite" the IP. DON'T delete and type something new.

Important: you must not (at least until you understand the format thoroughly and can see the "blond, brunette, redhead" in the matrix code ) add, or remove bytes when you edit binary files in a hex editor. (any of them, but some actually won't let you do that ... which can be a pain when you know the structure and really do want to append / insert a record or such)

Re: priston tale server startup

Good save, thanks for that. Well I got HxD now, opened up ZPT.exe (1.0.1). Actually I tried the Reaver one in the other post, but it was missing a DLL and kept erroring out. And not the DLL the original post said it was missing, but a different one.

So we have Comic Sans and then the IP 192.168.1.4
And the hex for that line: 31 39 32 2E 31 36 38 2E 31 2E 34 00 00 00 00 00

So I will over write my IP let's say 12.345.678.999
Which now leaves only the last two hex positions on the line as 00

Would that corrupt the file? By the way, I typed over the ASCII portion, not the hex, so it changed the hex for me.

But, it appears to be working now... I'll distribute the new exe to some friends and check to be sure. :)

Re: priston tale server startup

It shouldn't, but I wouldn't be surprised. As I noted, the reason I quit ZPT work was because at that point I had learned that constantly messing with the PE file, adding stuff here and removing stuff there, gradually degrades the image. No matter how clean your code & data, the executable image structure wears down messing with sections, and there was little more I could do with that client without breaking it. XD

The version posted had a couple of changes left to it's life but... you'd be better of exporting developments from it and importing them into a clean executable. That's mostly how I work now. Start with a clean exe each time I need to make a change to the structure and import code and data that I want without changing the structure again.

If you add or remove, even a single byte, that's a major structural change, but modifying the PE header or changing the import or export tables and resource section where what plagued the ZPT client.
