Hey everyone!

I'm sharing my WolfTeam International Client v312 private server, based on the original Softnyx client from May 2009, along with a custom launcher.

The entire project was developed from scratch through reverse engineering. No original server software or server-side files were used.

I'm also including the source code, so anyone interested can take a look at how everything works.

Downloads attached

  • wolfteam-server312.zip – Python server (Broker + Game Server), GUI and build.bat.
  • launcher312.zip – launcher.exe and its source code (src/launcher.c).
Please note: The game client itself is NOT included. You'll need to download and install the WolfTeam International v312 client separately.

What's

Quite a bit is already implemented! Here's an overview of the current features:

  • Login using username and password (the launcher handles the login credentials).
  • World selection through the Broker.
  • Channel selection, lobby, chat and player list.
  • Creating and joining rooms.
  • Team switching, changing room settings and game rules.
  • Ready system and room leader transfer.
  • Starting matches and handling rounds.
  • Kill tracking, scoring and round results.
  • Match completion with an end-game results screen.
  • Players can join matches that are already in progress.
  • Team switching between rounds.
  • Shop system with Gold and Cash purchases.
  • Item prices loaded from the original ShopData.dat.
  • Gold, GP and ranking system using the original GP progression table.
  • Win/loss statistics and end-of-match rewards.
  • Penalties for leaving a match early.
  • Automatic victory if one team has no remaining players.
  • Account management through accounts.json, including Gold, Cash, inventory, weapon sets and statistics.
  • Solo testing mode: simply type /solo in the room chat.
  • Tested with multiple clients connected to the same room simultaneously.

What's

There are still some limitations worth mentioning:

  • Game-mode-specific mechanics (Bomb, Flag, Conquest, Ice Hold and Revive) are only partially implemented and haven't been verified with actual players.
  • Messenger, mailbox and buddy system are not implemented. These originally relied on a separate Softnyx server.
  • Pride / Clan system is not implemented.
  • Shop features such as selling, gifting, upgrading and packages/boxes (EX ITEM) haven't been tested.
  • Purchased items currently don't expire.
  • Quick Start, invitations and kicking players are untested.
  • The RECORD statistics only update correctly after logging in again.
  • In-game chat does not run through the server.
  • No bots are included.
  • Only client version v312 is supported. Other versions (for example v626) use a different protocol and won't work with this server.
Important: This is a hobby project intended for testing and preservation. It has no database or proper security mechanisms, so I wouldn't recommend running it publicly without supervision.

Setting

Requirements:

  • Python 3 (tested with Python 3.12 and 3.14).
  • No additional packages or dependencies are required. The server only uses Python's standard libraries.

1.

Extract wolfteam-server312.zip into a folder of your choice.

2.

You have two options:

Option A – With GUI (Windows / Desktop)

Run:

python server_gui.py

From the GUI, you can configure the server IP, ports and other options. Click Start Server to launch it.

The window also displays a live server log.

Option B – Without GUI (Linux)

Run:

./start_server.sh

The server IP will be detected automatically.

Alternatively, you can specify it manually:

WT_SERVER_IP=<ip> python3 server.py

3.

On the first launch, the server automatically creates the following files and folders next to the server executable:

  • accounts.json
  • server_settings.json
  • logs/

Server

Server IP:

  • For LAN connections, use the local IP address of the computer running the server.
  • For internet connections, use your public IP address.
Required ports:

PortProtocolPurpose
40706TCPBroker
40707TCP + UDPGame Server
2366UDPAdditional game communication

If you want other players to connect over the internet, you'll need to configure port forwarding on your router and allow the ports through your firewall.

Accounts

The server comes with some predefined test accounts:

  • player / player
  • test1 through test7, all using the password test.
You can create additional accounts by adding entries to accounts.json.

Example:

json
{
"newplayer": {
"password": "mypassword"
}
}
All other account data, including Gold, Cash, items and weapon sets, will be initialized automatically.

You can even add new accounts while the server is running.

Building

You can also build your own standalone WTServer.exe, meaning you won't need Python installed to run the server.

The included build.bat handles everything automatically.

How to build:

  1. Double-click build.bat.
  2. On the first run, the script downloads Python 3.12 and PyInstaller into the _build directory. An internet connection is required (approximately 100 MB).
  3. Once everything is downloaded, the actual build takes around one minute.
Build result:

WTServer.exe

  • Standalone server application with GUI.
  • Approximately 10 MB in size.
  • No separate Python installation required.
The following files and folders will be created next to the executable:

  • accounts.json
  • server_settings.json
  • logs\
Windows SmartScreen or Windows Firewall may display warnings when running the executable for the first time. Review the application and allow access if you trust the build.

Launcher

The launcher is provided as a standalone launcher.exe.

The source code is included in:

src/launcher.c

It was compiled using zig cc. The exact build command is included at the top of the source file.

How

  1. Download and install the WolfTeam International v312 client.
  2. Place launcher.exe inside the game directory, next to Wolfteam.bin and wolf.xfs.
  3. Start launcher.exe.
  4. Enter your server IP address (or hostname), username and password.
  5. Click Start Game.

What does the launcher do?

  • Configures the client to connect to your selected private server.
  • Updates the server connection settings inside wolf.xfs when the configured IP changes. This includes Server.txt, Broker and Buddy settings.
  • Avoids rewriting the entire 390 MB archive unnecessarily.
  • Creates a one-time backup of the original game directory as wolf.xfs.dirbak.
  • Handles the login process and starts the game.
  • Saves your configuration in launcher.ini.
  • Writes diagnostic information to launcher.log.
  • Runs in the background until the game is closed.
Once you're in the game, simply double-click any Battle Camp, select Create Battle, and you're ready to go!

Additional Notes

  • ShopData.dat is an unmodified copy extracted from the client's original wolf.xfs archive. It contains the item prices required by the server.
  • wt_blowfish_ctx.bin contains the client's Blowfish encryption context. Both files are required for the server's shop data and communication handling.
  • WolfTeam, Softnyx, GameGuard and nProtect are trademarks of their respective owners.
  • This is a non-commercial hobby project focused on game preservation.
  • The launcher interacts with the game process, so some antivirus programs may flag it as a false positive. The source code is included, allowing anyone to review and compile it independently.

Have fun testing, and enjoy the nostalgia!
