GunBound Thor's Hammer — .NET 10 Server (Open Source)

Hi RaGEZONE,

I'm releasing an open-source GunBound Thor's Hammer server written in .NET 10 / C# with native sockets. It's a clean, self-hostable server — broker + game server + UDP relay + buddy (friends), all in a single process. It descends from garsia's GBS404 and is a port of kyll3r's Java server, rewritten in C#.

GitHub:

Status: Playable. Auth, login, lobby, chat, rooms, and full matches (weather / turns / avatars synced), avatar shop, gifting, friends (buddy list + presence + whisper + offline messages), stats/playlog, optional event scoring, and a localhost admin API. Works with the classic GBS404 (No Hackshield) client and with jglim's modern ThorsHammer client.

Features
  • Broker, game server (TCP), UDP relay and buddy server in one process
  • Byte-verified protocol encryption (AES-ECB + dynamic SHA-0-style key)
  • MariaDB / MySQL data layer, pooled and fully parameterized
  • Buddy list: presence, add/remove, whisper, offline messages
  • Avatar shop + gifting with in-game receipt notification
  • Stats / playlog (per-mobile & per-map win/loss + match history)
  • Optional redeemable event scoring (off by default)
  • Token-protected localhost admin HTTP API (status/players/rooms/ban/mute/kick/gift/GM)

How to set it up (step by step)
  1. Install the .NET 10 SDK and MariaDB/MySQL.
  2. Clone the repo:
    Code:
    git clone https://github.com/EnriqueCastroM/Gunbound-Net-Public.git
    cd Gunbound-Net-Public
  3. Create the database (also seeds a test / test account):
    Code:
    mysql -u root -p < Db/schema.sql
  4. Copy and edit the config:
    Code:
    cp db.properties.example db.properties
Set your DB user/password/dburl, and server.ip = your LAN IP (the address clients use to reach you; use 127.0.0.1 only for a same-PC client).
  5. Run the server:
    Code:
    dotnet run -- --server
Ports: broker 8400, game server + UDP relay 8401, buddy 8352.
  6. Point a Thor's Hammer client at your server, then log in with test / test:
    • jglim's ThorsHammer — set your server IP in its SystemPreferences.ini (easiest).
    • GBS404 (No Hackshield) — set the registry key Softnyx\GunBound IP to your server.ip and port to 8400 (usually written by the client launcher).

Clients
The repo ships code only — bring your own client. Two are known to work:
  • GBS404 (No Hackshield) — classic, syncs the cleanest; configured via the Windows registry (a bit more manual).
  • jglim's ThorsHammer — modern, in active development; easiest to configure via its SystemPreferences.ini:
Tip: test a real 2-player match on two different PCs — two clients on the same PC clash on UDP and desync.

Credits — thank you!
This wouldn't exist without:
  • garsia — the original GBS404 release this whole lineage comes from, and help with the buddy protocol / crypto.
  • kyll3r — the GunBound-Java server this .NET port is based on:
  • jglim — the modern ThorsHammer client:
  • kimmy — provided the client archives (the GBS404 No Hackshield client and others) used in development.
  • The RaGEZONE GunBound community — clients, tools and archives.

Legal
The repository contains server code only — no client or copyrighted Softnyx files. GunBound and its assets belong to their respective owners.

Feedback, issues and pull requests are very welcome. Have fun, and see you in game!

Hi.. Is the Gunbound .NET server more stable and functional than the Java server? I mean EX items or any features that are currently incomplete or not functioning correctly.
