No, that's not the latest version; I'm using 2.66 for my private server. But what I need is the entire Boom folder from the days it was still active (because the server downloads a few more resource files when launching the game, which the setup file doesn't include).

Sorry, I could only find this version, btw you have the server, could you share it, I'd really love to get the server and set up the game offline to relive some childhood memories.

I built the server by reverse engineering the client because the VN server shut down a long time ago, making packet capturing impossible. It's pretty exhausting since I have to guess the server packets purely from the client-side logic. If I ever finish it, I'll probably just release it for everyone to play; as for open-sourcing it, I doubt it...

I found a Crazy Arcade emulator source from a Chinese site. I haven't tested it yet, but maybe it's worth checking out.
Since the Vietnamese Boom server has been shut down, perhaps the Chinese server/source could be useful as a reference. Crazy Arcade is still active in China, so there might be more information or resources available there.

Here's the link:
Good luck.

the link was flagged, can you send me via Discord or my email?

Sorry, here is 7z file with pw compress, so the flag is gone.
archive pw: 123

Oh, I have that too, and it's the emulator binary for version 2001 or something, it's too old. Anyway, thank you. If you find a VN client, please send it to me.

Hey Rumi! Since our conversation a month ago, Claude Opus 5.5 has emerged and changed the game for game preservation and reverse engineering. RE has become much simpler and more accessible than before. I've subscribed to it for $20 and asked Opus 5.5 to reverse engineer the Vnese Boom Online client .

I'm documenting the progress in a public repository, which I'll continue updating as the agents make progress:

My plan is to finish reverse engineering the Vietnamese client first, then apply the knowledge and insights gained from that work to reverse engineer the latest Korean Crazy Arcade client.

Since the Korean servers shut down in August 2026, I think preserving that version is especially important. Once the Vietnamese client RE work is sufficiently complete, I'll use the Korean client as the next target for reverse engineering and preservation.

My long-term goal is to help preserve these games and, if possible, eventually get an offline version working. There's still a lot of work ahead, but AI-assisted RE has made this goal feel much more achievable than it did a month ago.

Cheers!

Ohhh, thats great. I also heard bits and pieces about someone else working on a Vietnamese client, turns out it was you haha. Mine is also partially working, but there are still some bugs with things like Boss Mission mode and the square. I haven't implemented the ladder system yet, but I've managed to import the cosmetics from KR to VN already!

Hi Rumi
Sorry but I'm not the guy you mention, I just vibe code this project 3 days ago.
Anyway, I saw your Crazy Arcade server, great work! I'm planning to rewrite the game engine in Rust (just vibecode). The original engine is about 25 years old, so reverse engineering it and adding new features is really painful. I'd use the assets from the latest KR client, but I don't yet have a solid understanding of the actual gameplay rules.

Would you be willing to share the game rules and parameters you know of (movement speed, bomb fuse time, explosion range, trap duration, item effects, etc.)? Even partial notes or pointers to where you found them would help a lot. This is a non-commercial passion project, and I'm happy to credit you and share what I learn back.

Thanks for reading, and no worries at all if you'd rather not!

Hey! I took a look at your repo, and honestly, I have no idea what's going on there xD

As for the gameplay, most of the logic is handled on the client side.

Each character has different stats, like movement speed, bomb range, and the number of bombs they can place.

For bomb fuse times, I currently use 2.5s for regular bombs. For bombs that get launched (like the tank in Camp 08), it's the travel time (around 2s) + 2.5s before they explode. Though I'm not 100% sure about these numbers since it's been a long time so I just estimated them based on gameplay videos on YouTube lol.

Most of the item mechanics are also handled on the client side.

Hope this helps a bit! Good luck with the Rust rewrite, sounds like a fun project 😄
