SQL Delete Item IDfrom Inventory_TBL

Hi guys, well, not posted in this section for along time but I'm in need of some help.

On my server people have gained a certain item and I need to delete the item from everyones inventory if they have it. I've been looking into truncate and such but I just cant seem to find any way to actually delete an Item. A friend told me that:

you have to get that string, parse it to find the right item, delete the content for that item, and then send the updated string to the db. but you also have to remove something from the index column or whatever.

So yea, if you guys can help me sort this ***** out I'd deeply appreciate it.
