Tera Reloaded Looking For Devs (Java) For Tera Emu

First let me say that I have been using L2J since the very beginning. I remember back in the day the server crashing every hour with 40 people in it. I have been running and do small Dev work on both L2J and Off for years. I still love L2 but after all these years I am finally played out and looking for something new.

That something new is Tera. I will be starting a team interested in developing a Java Emulator for Tera and am thinking maybe some of you guys that work on other Java Emus might be interested in doing a Tera Emu. Our Emu will not be open source though. It will start as closed and stay that way.

I am looking for good java devs as well as people to work on the data side (html, sql, xml).

So, basically, you want people to come do it for you because you don't know how? Sorry to sound negative here, but teams like this usually don't work out.
 
I cannot do the core java stuff myself this is true but sql, xml, reversing and packets on the client I can do which accounts for a good chunk of work and knowledge. I can also back the project financially as it grows and we need more resources. This is a project for people that enjoy mmorpgs, coding, having fun, and eventually making some money off the hard work we put in. I have run various projects over the years and they have all done well though this would be the largest one yet.
I have seen projects like this start and fail just like I am sure you have many many times so I understand the "negativity".

A team is called a team for a reason. Just managing a project already takes a good chunk of time and I work 40+ hours a week and have 2 small kids. So maybe I could but there is no way I will ever have the time to try and do all these things.

I had originally made the posting for C++ but was getting very little interest. If I see there is interest in doing it in a better language such as C# than I would prefer that.

There's nothing to manage here, and management is usually tied up dealing with other managers and higher ups, something which would be lacking from something like this.

As for Java, the language is evolving as often as the API, but both have undergone dramatic changes in the last 5 years primarily because Java was initially awful but Sun/Oracle decided it needed to absorb the capabilities of every major language (in some mutated or mutilated fashion at least) so that people would be more compelled to use it (or more comfortable?). So now it has closures and asynchronous constructs in the latest version of the language and that's fairly different than what you'd see from MapleStory pserver "devs". So you can get someone who's 8 years behind the language capability (let's say they're Java 5 "developers," Java 7 is an entirely different language to them) or someone who will tell you that Java is not an ideal language for this project (any non-Java 5 developer). Who knows, but good luck. You'd be better off making something useful, like a tool to read data out of the game and harvest it (combat log, player/npc/groundspawn information for a radar or a db site, etc). An emulator for this game would be terrible, lag already makes it difficult and having a response time over 20ms will make the PvP unplayable (and most emulators amateurs are going to write will be well over 20ms with more than 50 people connected).
 
Well, please when you are writing for a language first you must be an expert of using it, otherwise you can not have a good opinion. Reading articles will not help you to chooce a language to code a whole new project. So Java is fine for creating an emulator, maybe it is not so fast but it can handle big servers and thats it is doing for lineage 2. l2j is an open source project that can show to anybody that java is a wonderfull language. Now if you want something fast then the best language is C but it is not so easy to be used as you need to know how the memory is working and you must not think like a human when you are programming but like a computer. But thats why c# exists :)

You could create you own language for your game so you wouldn't have problem with having it open but it requires to know compilers.
I could reply with positive/negative things of all current programming languages but i think it would be a spam in your thread.

Back to the topic, you are looking for a team to work with java to create the first Tera private server. I do not know if there is any source about this game but it coud be a good start (if there is not). xml,html , jscript could be the db side but right now you need most the core. I could help for the game functions like the character skills and the whole game systems but first you need to find somebody to develop the client side in core.
