Facebook is a free service which people choose to join and use. They have all the right in the world to do whatever they wish with the data. It's pretty easy to stop using Facebook - I deactivated my account a good year ago and other than not talking to people I never really cared for I don't notice a different, except for the lack of updates on others lives.
