Threating DDoS

Hi guys i had 3x GMS And And 2 of them always fighted and like hated each other and swearing to each other in normal chat so all players saw it..after a few days i decided to kick one of them with a player majority vote in-game ...One of them got kicked and he is threating me that he gonna DDoS Attack if he dont get it back..what should i do??

That's exactly what i told him on MSN too. You'd need a botnet to DDoS properly. I doubt that he/she/it has a botnet. [I even doubt that he/she/it knows what that is]

You have logs of IPS for accounts? Just find the guys account and see his IP then IP ban him from computer run -> MMC etc. But then again he could aways change it lol ~.~
Its easy to find out his IP if you didnt have them logged, i get ddos all the time... after you see alot of unknown packets in server files theres a ip that runs through alot, just hold the scroll button and if you see the IP multiple times then IP ban it... than if the packets stop it must of been that.

Look around MySQL's webpage for tips on this subject...there are alot of ways you can setup your computer to protect against just such attacks.

Let me explain something to you kids. a DDoS attack is an act of hacking/terrorism and can/should be reported to WTC and Cybercrimes. You run a private, PRIVATE, server and an outsider whom was kicked is trying to hack it. looks real nice when the authorities confront them. Trace their IP back to the ISP and turn them in. If very easy to tunnel under a proxy which I doubt they have because you don't connect to the web to play. they are completely exposed with their original IP unless they have a port proxy in which case I doubt because, let's face it, they are not smart enough to use one let alone know what it is.

Unless DD attacks you, which he wouldn't openly threaten you, you have no fear. Just turn them into their ISP and let the legal system take care of them.

1. I hate this crap about ISPs tracking back people and turning them in wont happen.
2. The only people who will deal with DDoS is IC3 or DCIS in order to contact them you have to have a lot of information on how the botnet it's self is operating.
3. The kids just making relentless useless threats quit shitting your pants over it and run your damn server.

Do you think any website would be out there right now if they shit their pants and shut down every time a threat was thrown at them?

4. If you get DDoS'd you get DDoS'd but that's when you learn how to handle it, Firewalls wont always do you so good.

Hardware Firewalls can help but if the DDoS exceeds your line bandwidth considering you're running on a home system this would be fairly easy to do then you're screwed.

If you're running a dedicated box the good thing is before it hits your system it has to go through larger 1GB pipes from providers to reach your server and with a good enough data center the traffic is usually filtered by hardware firewalls to the point it wont flood your port.

Anyway DDoS is a lame fucking subject, and I hate kids who turn it into a big thing.

You think fame or TheDefaced would still be up if I ever just took the shit down because we got DDoS'd or threaten'd for it?

We've been smacked with up to 4GB/s of DDoS on our port previously and we just dealt with it, some times I wound up personally tracking the botnet down but that's what drastic measures are needed some times.

As far as a crappy private server for flyff, tbh who would waste their time DDoSing something like that.

And people wonder why I removed the files from the section. They can't handle it. And then we get into these type of threads where people who shouldn't run servers becuase they don't know how to protect themselves. they think by setting up Hamachi and opening ports that its all they need to run a server.

This has got to stop. Do the research and learn from your mistakes. and don't listen to threats, most of them are from kids who "just wanna be GM".

You wanna know why I banned the files. This thread is reason enough as well as some others
