Hey everyone,
Big news! our RO2 client now runs as a real 64-bit program! Since 23 October that's the version all our players get through the launcher.
The old client was stuck with the usual 32-bit limits. It could barely use your PC's memory and did almost everything on one CPU core, which is where a lot of the stutter came from. It took a while to get every part building and running in 64-bit, but we got there.
And it already feels so much smoother! effects load with the map instead of hitching in the middle of a fight, and it runs great on the Steam Deck too. With the memory limit gone we can finally start on sharper textures as well.
The 2006 maps lost their trees at first, because SpeedTree only exists as a 32-bit DLL. We got around that with a little 32-bit helper that builds the trees for the 64-bit game, and they're back on our test server now.
Still lots to do, but we're really happy with this one!
