Hello all RageZone members.

I have got 2x Intel® Xeon® E5-2630 v3 (2.40 GHz Base / 3.20 GHz Turbo) processors and 128GB DDR4 RAM memory (cannot remember memory speed).
I was thinking to maybe buy Dual Socket Motherboard and build a Game Server Machine.

The questions are:
1. What games servers could I setup on machine with specs above?
2. What are the capabilities of this kind of machine? One game server or maybe two game servers simultaneously?

I always wanted to have own MuOnline server, but is it legal?

Thank you for any advice.

Regards.

That could run a good amount of various things! I don't personally know anything about MuOnline but I do know that server could host "Perfect World" (PW). It could also host MineCraft. Counter-Strike (just about any version), L4D, etc "Source" games we'll say.

The server certainly seems of good specs, not too far off what I'm looking at getting next. Don't forget, even more importantly than these server specs, will be bandwidth. That will depend on what you exactly want to do with it: IE: will it be a small server, IE for development or testing, or family/friends ~ or will it be a (hopefully) "huge" server with as many people on as you can attract? This will depend on whether you may want to host it at home, or COLO it at a data center! "Small" servers for development and or testing and or family and friends to "tinker" or "mess around" on, a home connection should suffice. If you want to attract say "thousands" of players, you may want to ship that thing off to a data-center for some colocation (especially if you anticipate that many users online simultaneously)... .. .

Hope this helps!

Hello

I noticed that you're interested, in exploring game server choices for your machine. The hardware specifications you provided appear to be quite good. You might want to think about configuring game servers such as Minecraft, Counter Strike; Global Offensive (CS;GO) or even a private server, for World of Warcraft. These games have communities. Tend to perform well on your system. Just ensure that you optimize the server settings to ensure gameplay. If you have any inquiries regarding setting up a game server feel free to ask!

Good day, if you are open for partnership with your Virtual Machine, we can discuss it and maybe, an agreement.

That setup sounds pretty awesome for a game server! With those Xeon CPUs and 128GB of RAM, you’ve got a lot of power to play with. You should be able to handle a bunch of game servers without breaking a sweat. For games like Minecraft, you could definitely run a few servers at once. If you’re into more demanding games like ARK or Rust, you might manage one or two depending on how many players and mods you’re dealing with.As for MuOnline, running a private server can be a bit iffy legally. It’s usually against the terms of service for most games, so technically it’s not legal to host one without permission from the game’s publisher. If you’re just playing around with friends, it’s less of an issue, but going public could get you into trouble.

Hardware Overview

Your hardware, with dual Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors and 128GB DDR4 RAM, is a solid foundation for a game server. It can handle demanding tasks and support multiple concurrent users.

Potential Game Servers

Given your hardware, you could consider hosting the following types of game servers:

  • MMORPGs: Games like Lineage, Ragnarok Online, or older versions of World of Warcraft could run smoothly on your setup.
  • FPS games: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Minecraft servers, and other popular FPS titles are viable options.
  • Role-Playing Games (RPGs): Games like Neverwinter Nights or older Dungeons & Dragons Online servers could be hosted.

Server Capabilities

Your machine can likely handle multiple game servers simultaneously, depending on the specific game and the number of concurrent players. Factors such as:

  • Game complexity: More complex games require more resources.
  • Player count: Higher player counts demand more processing power and memory.
  • Server software optimization: Efficient server software can maximize performance.
Experimentation is key to determining the optimal configuration.

Legality of Hosting a MuOnline Server

Hosting a MuOnline server without proper authorization is illegal. MuOnline is a copyrighted game, and operating a server without a license from Webzen (the game's developer) infringes on their intellectual property rights.

Legal Alternatives

If you're interested in hosting a game server, consider these legal options:

  • Open-source games: Many open-source games allow you to set up your own servers.
  • Game server hosting providers: These services offer pre-configured servers for popular games.
  • Game development: Create your own game and host it on your server.
