It seems like many private servers disable Duey. Is there a reason for this?

Private Why do many servers disable Duey?

Probably many reasons. It's common to be a skill maxer for one, handlers/packets aren't ever updated or cared for, likely has exploits, and was even removed from GMS at some point.

It must be possible to fix these exploits though, right?

Sure it is, but most of the people you see hosting servers these days are people that have no idea what they're doing programming wise.

All v0.62 sources are full of exploits (easy and less common ones), so they just disable him. We actually bothered to fix the dupes and have Duey fully enabled since day 1, but as far as I know we are the only (v62) that bothered to fix him lol
So yes, he's possible to be fixed if you think harsh as a Packet Editor since there's like 4+ methods to dupe with him.
You need
-A check when you put money on him (checks if you have the mesos)
-A check when you put an item on him (checks if you have it)
-A check when you confirm it (again that everything is valid)
-A check when you received an item that you get the item you got, not PEing it
He's about the same level as merchants when it comes to checks, so together with Duey not commonly used in p-servers, its a too 'bother' to fix him, so they disable him.
