Hi,

I dont know if to use a Ethernet cable or Wireless USB pen to get me connected to the internet.

Which one is better? For ethernet its a big long cable going through my living room.

Wireless USB pen would probaly be the best.

Hrm let me see... 1000mbps ethernet, or 54mbps (at best) wireless? Damn, this is such a hard decision!

Go ethernet. Faster, more secure, more reliable.

I have 6 PC's in my house spread out in every room. Each and every one of them is connected by a cable. We have 2 routers and both of them are wireless, but we have disabled it and refuse to use wireless, even if it does mean 8 cables running on the ground.

He will Only get 1Gbs Ethernet if his modem supports it however it wont provide a faster download or upload speed just a faster Local connection thats really not needed unless your sharing files over your network.

If your using wireless N i'd go with that 144mps and using the proper WPK/WEP key settings youll be fine :)

No it will not make his internet faster, but wireless can commonly slow down your internet. Additionally, wireless has horrible LAN transfer speeds, can easily be disrupted by other wireless devices, and is not very reliable. No ethernet will not give him 1Gbps transfer speed, but wireless won't give him 54/144mbps either, will it?

I stand by my choice.

to sum it up.

WLAN

pros
- Range
- Flexibility
- No Cables
- Secure

cons
- not for gaming
- Speed
- Signal Strength
- Shares the same broadcast frequency as other devices
- Can be slowed via bluetooth

LAN

pros
- Speed
- Reliability
- Secure
- great for gaming

cons
- look tacky
- Cables break
- Limited range

if your looking for a more diverse option, for range and the ability to be anywhere in the house choose wireless. If your prefer speed over range go for Ethernet
also go for Ethernet if you game.

wireless is not that secure. go for it unless you need 100% reliability on your line. wireless may have the disadvantage of being slower, but it gives quite good speed at times. my torrents give me a consistent 300KB/s on average.

Unless you are some paranoid **** or mind that decrease in speed yet do not mind that extra cable, then go ahead and use lan.

I get the same latency from Ethernet as wireless.

Wireless depends on where your hub is and how busy an area you are in. Make sure you choose a channel which preferably no one else is using. Wireless shares bandwidth with other people on your channel, so choosing an unused one, or one that has light traffic, will speed up the connection.

Wireless technology is constantly improving, if you get one which is top of the line it will handle internet traffic as well as an ethernet connection. If you are planning on using the connection for file sharing however, a wired connection is warranted.

I'm using a wireless network as well as wireless broadband - works perfectly fine for gaming and downloading, as long as you get yourself a good router.

If your connected with ethernet direcly from pc to router this means when your interent is up its up if it goes off its your supplier ect. basicly no internet loss

Know as technoology is upgrading and advancing i bought my self a asus adapter its very good and hasnt let me down once.

So 100% stability for ethernet

95+ for wireless depends on your os and your distance and your quality on provider.

Thomson TG585n, one of the Thomsons. I think speeds are capped to 54MBps on the router. Im thinking of "http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Edimax-EW-7711Uan-Worlds-smallest-11g-and-%2811n-150mbps%29-wireless-USB-3dbi-High-Gain-Win7-Ready"

if you are going for wireless, read some gamer's reviews, and buy the better one, usually more expensive, just don't go for Canyon, i bought few of them and now i'm sorry, every few hours they reconnect (DC) , i replaced them with a good D-LINK USB wireless. also, with ethernet cable the ping is going to be better in most cases :)
