What do you asscociate most with retro computers / gaming

Not sure if this is the right section to ask or not, but I want to turn a Raspberry Pi into a portable computer themed on retro gaming and some of the early computers. For some inspiration I wanted to know: What do you most associative with retro computers and gaming?

C64 taking about an hour to load Mr Freeze or batman with the purple and green squiggly lines when loading.
