Server + Client @ 1.4.2 & Guide

Make sure you use the PWD client with this guide as some of the teleports to get into instances were changed over time... that is the main reason why people have issues, other then that only issue I can think of is possibly not enough RAM/swap for it to work properly

Hi das7002,

thx for your answer, but i'm stuck. Maybe i can bother you again:rolleyes: ?

Problem 1 (minor):
Factions (Press 'G') doesn't work at all. Nothing happens ingame. Nothing on the logs. No idea, how to proceed further.

Problem 2 (major):
'Unable to enter instance', completely stuck on that issue. So far I tested by Trial&Error and could eliminate the following culprits:

OS/Host:
32bit vs. 64bit (vanilla minimal Debian Lenny) / physical vs. virtualised - same problem, doesn't matter.

Requirements:
minimal VM 2GB Ram + 400MB Swap within ESXi on old Hardware up to dedicated physical Host Phenom II 8 GB Ram + 8GB Swap - no effect on the issue

Player Acc / GM / Cubi / whatever:
All Combinations of 'xml manipulated' or standard Account, GM, with and w/o cubi trans, Playerlevels etc. - no effect ->no relation to that issue

Gameclient:
Complete Recreation of the Gameclient per pwd - no effect

btw: i borrowed a 2nd Tft to monitor ALL PW Deamons incl. ./gs 'map' at runtime

Testrun X (for example):
Login std lvl 50 player, enter is02 (SecretPassage) - ok. Logout. Reboot or Restart PW-Server-Software. Login. is02 - unable to enter :?: If i was within the is02 on logout, i start in is02 on login but can not exit the instance, getting 'unable to enter..'
Same behavior on all Instances. So, it seems the instances themself are working correctly, just the transfer of PlayerXY between the gameservers on entering/exiting a dungeon only occurs by chance. The Transfermessage from the gdeliveryd on a successful entering is the only difference between entering OK or FAIL. On a Fail just nothing appears on the logs.

Crap.. I'm really about to :*:. Help truly is welcome.

One last thing, I noticed that the lvl cap is 150 on this server image, is there a way to make it higher. I see on some other PW servers the cap is 250.

Cheers

Unless you feel like changing thousands of quests to the new max level (I don't know of any reliable way to do it automatically besides coding a new feature into sTaskedit), the fact that the game was very very built for 150 to be the max level and that many of us here all believe that servers with a cap higher then 150 are retarded. If you don't want people leveling as fast (assuming that is why you want a higher cap...) then just lower the exp multiplier...

1: I never heard of this issue before, so no idea what cause it
2: For the 'testrun' you did when the server gets restarted you must make sure the instance it was in is running, if you can't walk out of the normal teleport try the fb29 instance in their then leave (different teleport) because your main exit might have an incorrect teleport value
Also see if you can leave with a teleport stone if neither of those work, if it doesn't even let you out like that then you have an issue with more then just teleport zones...

I have a few questions in the server the map of forrest is the new (pwi jungle of ruins) but i dont know the correct map, i changed the a12 map in the server but is the same cant enter te old map and send me to the jungle of ruins (a awesome map, but bug) what i have to change to obtain the old map that because the quest of teleport dont work i supose is for the wrong map (i see the task.data and fix the lvl to the quest but cant see the quest in the npc still non activated)thanks for any help

Guys.... I have my server and client up and running. I want to say a huge thanks to the OP.

For your entertainment and in the spirit of sharing, I have made my server available to anyone who wants to use it. It is a VMWare file, so simply install VMWARE and add the image to your library. ( )

Here are my links:

PW Server VMWare Image

Client already patched

The password for everything is 'pworld', and to login to Debian, use my account, 'bigrussian63'

All you need to do is change the IP address as was instructed in the opening post.

One last thing, I noticed that the lvl cap is 150 on this server image, is there a way to make it higher. I see on some other PW servers the cap is 250.

Cheers

Hi BigRussian63,

having strange Issues with Instances in my own PW-Installation, i tested your Release to see if there are any differences. I have the same Problems with 'Unable to enter instance' on your Release. Can you confirm that please?

I must say, I'm not typing out my entire rant on this subject yet again. In short, yes, wanting a level cap of more than 150 is just straight retarded!

Hi i got the server up and running, patched the PWI 1.4.2 client with downgrade from codeplex (old branch) replaced elements, gshop etc

i can connect fine, enter the world but i got some issues with the client, cannot map or use hotkeys, cannot ride low lvl mounts "current item cannot be used" etc...

hmm thought I'd try this guide, and as usual, stuck.

4. Install Libraries

* Java Runtime Environment is required for the PW Java API (used by authd and pwAdmin)
COMMAND~: apt-get install openjdk-6-jre

here, when I type the apt-get install openjdk-6-jre

it says:
E: Couldn't find package openjdk-6-jre

Try what fgru suggested and if that fails you can always locate the package yourself with
Code:
apt-cache search [COLOR="Red"]java[/COLOR]

You can replace the red text with whatever search terms you like.

<3 apt

The guys with the "Cannot enter instance." issues... you sure you even started them? Like, made sure you started them?

@xAtticusx
Thx for your Help and yes, i'm sure i start the related maps before trying to enter. It seems to be some kind of runtime error, as you can enter a instance sometimes...
Well, i'm not stupid and fairly expirienced in technical stuff like that, but i just have no more ideas how to proceed further.
Sorry for bad english, its not my native language. Maybe you can giveme the hint i need :/:

I'll give it a last try, recreating the hole server from bare metal on another test PC. Seems, i'm the only one having that strange issue. So, if nothing helps, Project 'PerfectWorld - Server' goes to /dev/null.

To see if instances themselves are working look in your GS.CONF in gamed (server side). Retrieve the WORLD ID TAG for the 'dungeon' you're looking to test. Then using pwAdmin (iWeb) 'insert' your test character into the dungeon using the WORLD ID TAG. If the next time you log in it works, your problem not being able to enter is because of an incorrect WORLD ID TAG -- in the quest (TASKS.DATA) or the region teleport info (REGION.CLT/SEV) If you are still unable to enter it is something else and you need to start checking client and server log files for the possible culprit...

Thanks guys for all the feedback so far. Yes I know that lvl 150 is supposed to be the max, but I was just curious about it since I saw 250 on some servers. :)

As for the instances, I managed to get mine to work no problem, you just have to start them individually. What are the specs of your server, and how much RAM have you allocated to the VM image?

You can also download my already patched client in my earlier post.

Are you running this in a virtual environment? If yes you may not have setup your virual LAN correctly. If no, then you may have not setup your IP settings to get internet access correctly.

Is there any way to get this working on a windows based system or does it have to be debian?

Windows is not a good server OS, Linux/Unix has been the top dog for server OS's since the beginning of time and no matter how hard Microsoft tries to change that they will never beat Linux. Windows Server services even get beat by Linux software (SMB, Samba (which include Domain Authentication); Exchange, Zimbra/Open X-Change; IIS/ASP/ASP.Net, Apache server with mod_AspDotNet or Apache::ASP)

If you ever do serious server work it will almost always be on CentOS or RedHat (RPM based distro's are more popular for things like that) but Debian is pretty high up there too
