G’day mate! We’re fired up for MapleStory Down Under, our week-long appreciation of all things Oz!

While the majority of Global MapleStory users are from the Northern Hemisphere, MapleStory is after all, a global game. Every community that makes a second home in Maple World brings a unique contribution to the game. In the case of our Aussie Maplers, it’s their great sense of humor, cheerfulness in the face of challenging PQs, and tough pioneer spirit that help inspire others and improve the Maple community - the same qualities that built Australia into a great nation!

Here’s what to look forward to this week!

Special 2x EXP/Drop: Finally, a 2x EXP/Drop event friendly to Australia's time zone! Stay tuned for details!

Maplers in Australia: Take your MapleStory character on a photo journey through Australia for your chance at some great prizes!

The Great Australian Adventure: Get to the keyboard and describe your ultimate Australian MapleStory Adventure!

Australia Trivia: How much do you know about Oz?

Australia Fun Facts: Keep an eye out for fun facts about our favorite land down under on all MapleStory web posts!

• More surprises!

Let’s get to our first five fun facts about Australia. Some are weird, some are funny, all are true!

• The Commonwealth of Australia was formed on January 1, 1901 (1/1/01) and comprised the six original colonies.

• Of the ten most poisonous spiders in the world, nine of them live in Australia.

• The Tasmanian Devil actually exists, it’s native to the island state of Tasmania, a part of the country of Australia. It has the jaw strength of a crocodile.

• The Great Barrier Reef has a mailbox. You can ferry out there and send a postcard, stamped with the only Great Barrier Reef stamp.

• The Sydney Opera house was originally supposed to cost $7 million. The final cost was $102 million largely paid for by the state lottery.

Greetings Maplers!

In order to gear up for our Chaos update this summer, we will be temporarily restricting the creation of new Dual Blades, Arans, and Evans characters from May 26th to June 29th, 2011. During this time, we will announce major changes to these classes that will go into effect during Chaos. Please note this restriction will NOT affect any Dual Blades, Arans, or Evans that were created before May 26th, 2011.

After June 29th, Dual Blades, Arans, and Evans will be back and better than ever!

You did it, Maplers! The MapleStory Facebook page has over 500,000 Likes!

To celebrate, we’re giving away 500,000 mystery boxes! Each mystery box contains one Cake vs Pie 2 Insignia to get you started for the upcoming Cake vs. Pie 2: Winner Bake All event and another random prize from the list below.

Shawn - [GMS] Official Updates, Events and Patch Notes - RaGEZONE Forums

The Cake vs. Pie 2 insignia is untradeable, as are the two new items from the mystery box, the Anniversary Chair and Rolling Pin. Please be sure to collect your mystery box with the character you want to own the items.

Getting your box is easy! Just log in starting on May 26 and pick up your box from Cake Boss Daniel or Pie Boss Tiara located in most major towns. There are more than enough to go around, but don’t miss out! The boxes are only available until June 1st.

But wait, that’s not all!

We’ll be running a Facebook event to remind players they need to log in on May 26 to grab one of the the 500,000 mystery boxes. If we get 2,500 attendees for the event we will give you a 2x event the weekend of May 28!

To get started, just click and mark Attending!

We can’t wait to see you in game!

May 25th – June 28th 2011

The Global MapleStory exclusive Anniversary event is back! Cake and Pie will once again battle it out to show which pastry reigns supreme!

As baked goods-battling veterans know, Cake vs. Pie is an epic PvP style event in which Maplers are assigned to either the Cake or Pie faction. Once assigned to a side, players race to turn in enough Cake or Pie pieces to their faction leader to trigger a showdown against the rival faction members. The winners will receive control of a town as well as special Insignias that can be used to purchase awesome prizes!

Shawn - [GMS] Official Updates, Events and Patch Notes - RaGEZONE Forums

Cake vs. Pie 2 is no duplicate dessert. We’ve made some huge changes to ensure that this year’s battle is bigger and better than ever!

More Fights and No Lag!

Cake vs. Pie 2 means double the baking fun with two all new modes:

1. Team Siege Mode: Cake vs. Pie is all about territory control. To take control of a town this time around, you’ll need to coordinate your team of up to five players to take down the defenses of the opposing faction or defend against an assault. The attacking team can try to destroy the defending team’s barriers directly or summon mobs to help them, while the defending team must strengthen their barriers and destroy the attacking team’s minions

Shawn - [GMS] Official Updates, Events and Patch Notes - RaGEZONE Forums

2. All New Boss Battle: You can’t take over towns without first getting your hands on Cake and Pie pieces. While you can get them off ordinary mobs, the most epic way to obtain these little pastries is to participate in the all new boss battle! At 15 and 45 minutes past each hour Cake and Pie faction members can form ten-man teams and try to defeat the other faction’s boss. It’s a race to see which side can defeat the giant baked goods fastest and when your team is victorious your will be showered in Cake or Pie pieces.

For details on both new modes, be sure to check out the update notes.

Shawn - [GMS] Official Updates, Events and Patch Notes - RaGEZONE Forums

Better Battles!

No more crowds of Maplers attacking the same boss mob! Instead of fighting in town, Cake and Pie faction members that want to throw down will now be transported to special battle maps to fight it out in both modes. Don’t worry! Whenever possible, you’ll be paired with and against players that are close to your character’s level.

Factions Change Each Day!

Recruited to the Cake team when your allegiance actually belongs to Pie? Don’t worry, this year your faction has the possibility to change each day, giving you the chance to battle from both sides of the oven.

Better Rewards!

This year since the battles are more epic, we had to make the rewards sweeter as well. Here are just some of the prizes you can get by turning in Insignias:

v.98 - Cake vs. Pie 2: Winner Bake All

New Events

New Events
Cake vs. Pie Town Battles – 05.26.2011 – 06.28.2011
Lv.10 and up
Cake vs. Pie is hosted in Henesys, Orbis, Magatia, and Leafre. In these towns, you can find Cake Boss Daniel and Pie Lord Tiara. Talk to one of them once a day to be randomly assigned to the Cake faction or the Pie faction. After being assigned to a team, collect either Cake Pieces or Pie Pieces and turn them in to your faction’s leader in order to fill up the meter in one of the four towns. Cake Pieces and Pie Pieces are dropped by monsters, are tradable, and can be collected by members of either faction. Once either faction fills a town’s meter to 100%, an invitation is sent out to all members of each faction to join the battle for control of that town. The invitation will appear as a red envelope with gold trim above your character’s head. Please keep in mind that you will not receive the invitation if you are in certain places, such as the Cash Shop or MTS. After accepting the invitation, you will be sent to a waiting room, then when the timer runs down, everyone will be divided into team of up to five and sent to a battle field instance. The teams are made regardless of if they are currently in a party or expedition, and when enough players are available, teams will be balanced by level. The faction that fills up the meter first will be the attack team, and the other faction will be the defense team.

Attack Team
: Destroy the barricade in the bottom right of the map. You can attack the barricade directly or use regular attacks on the Monster Summoning Sack in the top left in order to call forth hordes of monsters to attack the barricade for you. You can also purchase a Summoning Sack in the Cash Shop which sends out a stream of several monsters when used—be aware that you cannot use another one of these until all the monsters summoned with the previous one are defeated.

Defense Team: Defend the barricade from the monsters summoned by the attack team. As the barricade is damaged, it will occasionally drop icing pieces—these can be picked up and dropped in front of the red and blue machines behind the barricade. The blue machine will create a small field of ice to slow down the monsters. The red machine will create a small field of fire to damage any monsters or characters that walk through it. Keep an eye out for members of the Attack Team who might try to steal your icing pieces! Additional monster defense can be acquired by using Mini Barricades, which can be purchased in the Cash Shop. When you use a Mini Barricade, be aware that you cannot use another one until the previous one is destroyed.

After the team battles are complete, talk to your faction leader in the exit room in order to receive the appropriate amount of 6th Anniversary Insignias and to return to town. The faction that wins the most battles will gain control of the town where the battle was activated for one hour. Controlling the town grants your faction a discount on many Use items sold in the town’s general store, and it grants your faction 10% bonus EXP when defeating monsters in the region of the controlled town. If the battles result in a draw, then neither team will win insignias or control of the town.

Controlling the town also grants your faction access to Sweet Cake Hill by using the portal situated between Cake Boss Daniel and Pie Lord Tiara. There are three mini dungeons that can be entered through here:
* Piece of Cake (Sweet Cake Hill 1, on the bottom tier) contains Lv.25 cake and pie monsters.
* Bring ‘em On (Sweet Cake Hill 2, on the middle tier) contains Lv.40 cake and pie monsters.
* Devil’s Food Cake (Sweet Cake Hill 3, on the top tier) contains Lv.70 cake and pie monsters.
All of these monsters can drop dessert Use items.

6th Anniversary Insignias can be exchanged for prizes from your faction’s leader.

6th Anniversary Insignia Purchase List

  • 1 Cake vs. Pie Random Box 1 insignia
  • 10 Cake Elixirs 5 insignia

Unpack your shovels and get ready to dig, because Maple World has treasure to be found! The Ancient Artifact Hunt is returning on June 1st, 2011 with another chance to get a permanent Archeologist Hat or permanent Archeologist Glasses.

Shawn - [GMS] Official Updates, Events and Patch Notes - RaGEZONE Forums

The Artifact Hunt is simple! Pick up Mysterious Artifacts from monsters and gather 5,000 excavation points to receive the regular Archeologist Hat and Archeologist Glasses. If you’re one of the top 10 archeologists by 5 PM Sunday (Pacific) during the duration of the event, then your hat or glasses can become permanent! (You’ll have one full week to redeem your reward.)

Prepare to earn big rewards, Maplers. As they say, third time’s a charm!
- Uncover eight different treasures and return them to their owners to get a Mystical Artifact Discoverer Medal!
- Maintain your spot as a top 10 archaeologist for a week to earn an Artifact Top 10 Medal!
- Reach 30,000 excavation points and receive a special mount skill as a reward!

Talk to Gaga, get an Excavation Permit and head out to hunt! Event runs through June 28th.

Updated. I'm currently getting back into Maplestory and this event isn't all that bad.

Forget everything you know about Aran, Evan, and Dual Blades. With new skills and improved game balance, these three classes return on June 29th more powerful than ever!

New Voices!

Even if you can defeat the Empress, don’t expect her to go silently. Voiceovers in the Cygnus and Chief Knights battle as well as in the Lion King’s Castle will forever change the way you communicate with NPCs in Maple World.

Sometimes it seems like the forces of evil have all the advantages. Cool costumes, mighty powers, no ethics. Then something comes along that reminds you that good still has some tricks up its sleeve. Get yourself a heroic head start for Chaos and turn the “level” playing field of Maple World into a leveling playing field!

If you have a character of Level 70 or higher at any point between June 29th to July 26th, you’ll be able to create one Level 50 character of your choosing in any world where you have a level 70+ character! Select from Dual Blades, Evan and Aran to start your next adventure, but choose carefully! You will only be able to create one Jumpstart Character per account.

If you meet the condition for this event, simply log in to MapleStory during the event period, choose your world, and on the Select Character screen, click the “Create!” button. From here you will be able to choose a character and begin playing. Dual Blades will start in Kerning City, Evan in Henesys, and Aran in Rien. You will also be given a free character slot upon creating a Jumpstart character—if you already have fifteen slots in a world, however, you will not be able to create an additional character.

No matter where you begin, you’ll have a heroic head start that’ll catch the forces of darkness napping!

Log in, level up, and look ahead, Maplers! Chaos is coming!

v.99 - Chaos: Age of Heroes Update Notes

New Content

Gate to the Future
Characters Lv.160 and above can travel from the Temple of Time to the new Gate to the Future.
* The gate leads to new areas including Henesys Ruins and its surrounding areas as well as Dark Ereve, which includes the Knight Stronghold and the new Cygnus Expedition.
* You will find older versions of several NPCs you may already know in the present.
* There are many new quests involving these areas. The quests are optional, though you must complete certain ones in order to participate in a Cygnus Expedition.
* Areas in Dark Ereve and the areas around Henesys Ruins contain giant, mutated versions of low level monsters from the present.
* The Knight Stronghold is packed with Cygnus Knight enemies that have the same skills as Cygnus Knights you can create, but are much more powerful than any Cygnus Knight in the present.
* The Knight Stronghold is filled with party play areas, which will be familiar to many players who have explored Lion King's Castle before. When defeating enemies in these party play areas, you gain 50% bonus EXP for every extra member you have in your party who are present, up to 250% bonus EXP for a party of six.

Cygnus Expedition
Empress Cygnus is the boss enemy of the new area. She is the most powerful enemy in the game as of this update.
* This expedition is available to characters Lv.170 and above.
* You must form an expedition of 3-18 characters to enter the battle.
* This expedition is available in channel 13.
* If you die during the fight and choose to revive, you will not be able to re-enter the battle. To remain in the battle, you will need a character in the battle with a reviving skill to use that skill on you, or you can use a Wheel of Destiny from the Cash Shop.

Voiceovers
* While fighting Empress Cygnus during a Cygnus Expedition, she and her five Chief Knights--Mihile, Oz, Irena, Eckhart, and Hawkeye--have voiceovers.
* In Lion King's Castle, Von Leon, Ifia, Luden, and Jenn have voiceovers.

Secret Mastery Books
Many monsters now drop these in place of specific Mastery Books. Double click on it to receive a random Mastery Book.

Traits
The traits system has been implemented to allow you to look at its basics before the Age of Artisans update arrives, when you will be able to do even more to develop your character's traits. Traits allow you to increase certain abilities of you characters, and they can be leveled up. The traits are: Ambition, Empathy, Insight, Willpower, Diligence, Charm. We survived the Big Bang, endured throughout the Resistance, and then celebrated with Jubilation. Now, Maple World must prepare for Chaos!

Each of Chaos’ five updates will provide Maple World with its own individual challenges. However, for those special Maplers who want to demonstrate loyalty and perseverance above-and-beyond their calling, Chaos will also offer a relay marathon event!

This event will span all five Chaos updates. At the outset of each, we will update this post with the information needed to complete the requirement for that stage. Each requirement must be completed during the stated timeframe, and all must be completed in order to qualify for the prize.

At the end of the marathon, Maplers who have completed all of the requirements will receive 10,000 Maple Points!

Requirement #1: Age of Heroes
Make a new Evan, Dual Blade, or Aran in the Chaos world and level up to at least level 30. Deadline: July 11

Requirement #2: Age of Artisans
Coming in July!

Requirement #3: Age of Battle
Coming in July!

Requirement #4: Ice Knight
Coming in July!

Requirement #5: GMS Exclusive Content
Coming in August!

It seems I missed this one. Didn't see it until recently... I say it's a fairly easy thing to do. Most likely, the other requirements will be:

Req #2: Learn and use a profession so many times and/or get your profession to a certain level.

Req #3: Participate in PvP so many times.

Req #4: Participate in Ice Knight game so many times.

Req #5: Unknown since the exclusive content is unknown at this time. We'll probably know what it is by Patch 3 or 4. I doubt Nexons' smart enough to withhold all content until it gets released.
