I do have an official account, but I wont have internet for a long while but I do want to be able to play this offline. Is there something that requires you to be online in order to play over a lan?

Should just drop the whole "must have official account". Because when ArenaNet emailed you, they were worried about client distribution, well they let you download the client from their website. And honestly, they can't do anything about it if you don't have an official account. Just drop it so it'll make people happy and less stress/work/confusion.

Having an official account is whats making the server able to be played without a lan lock. This way people may be able to host their own servers for freinds as long as they all have official accounts. Authorization stops those who havnt paid for the game to be able to play for free which is what ArenaNet is worried about, their product being used without cost.

One thing, who said anything about a windows key?

if your talking about the guildwars accounts, Acually everyone on our team has a guildwars account, The team is making this because we dont want to leave our hard work in the hands of Anet.

a year from now = all game are free to play 4ever
RAN = free 2 play = bighit - optional topup = 3rd ranking in my shop
Audition = free 2 play = bighit - optional topup = 2nd
Dota = 4 everfree = always no1
pangya = it has a potential -audition maintenance alternative
Private ragnarok cant question its charisma lots of kidz still playing it
Levelup Ragnarok dead no one playing it anymore 4 2 succeding years no one toping-up anymore-completely dead, Ran and audition top-up card always sold out
{suma total}
you can make money out of it eventhough its 4 free coz players are willing to spend money 4 his-her beloved avatar = key to profit for ur hardwork

What i meant was the hard work we all put into our characters.
Sorry for the confusion.

And..how would they know your characters names? Let alone your account name and IP address.

if its not free whats the point of all the emulator teams' hard work?

The emulator is free. The game that is being emulated is not. Restricting who can play the emulator does not negate our work on it. The point of this project has never been about allowing people to play without owning an official account. As I've said, I'm trying to find a balance between all three parties. Which include the GWLP Team, ArenaNet, and whoever is interested in this project. It has been to provide a way to play a Guild Wars like game:

1. Without having to use the Internet.
2. With the ability to customize nearly everything.

Sure I could take this emulator on the path that many others have gone and ignore the developers who created the game. However, this is not my goal for this project. I will let the ulterior motive reveal itself later. But for now just know that it is beneficial to these three parties and probably a fourth.

This is the current state of affairs:

1. ArenaNet has expressed concerns over piracy.
2. The community has expressed concerns over anti-piracy.

If I was going to appease ANet, running a server on LAN would require authorization. However, this is not the case. It is possible to play on the emulated server without paying but it is restricted to LAN players only. There was going to be a LAN-lock before the idea of authorization came along. This would have prevented the deployment of server's able to accept players from across the Internet. Which is an implied feature in at least this server emulation community.

This is where authorization comes into play. It allows me to maintain the single largest benefit of a private server (aside from no monthly fee, GW does not have that so it does not apply.), playing online with others on a customizable server. Those of you who want to play for free are stuck on LAN only and have three main options, ignore the project, circumvent authorization, or buy the game and gain access to both official and non-official servers.

I consider this balanced for now. It takes the community desire into account but is balanced by forcing anti-piracy protection on the most desirable element of a private server. It appeases no party and allows room for later nullification on both sides should that ever be needed.

He is not speaking in relation to this project. It is a general problem found in all games that hold your character information server-side. Take Diablo II for example, I played that exclusively Single Player due to not liking the fact that the character I spent hours upon hours working on(hard work) being stored server-side. My account could be terminated and my character(s) lost for any reason and no reason at all. All it takes to lose your character(s) is the modification of a flag. This could occur by accident or purposefully by someone motivated politically, by grudge, or by someone just having "fun"

Essentially it is the lack of trust in the company holding the numbers you are authorized to modify hostage. With the demands being that you follow their rules or your authorization will be terminated. But just because you follow the rules doesn't mean you are in the clear. Servers cost money to keep running and will eventually be taken off line. All that work on your character(s) is now just a memory when this happens. Understood?

All that trouble just to have everyone laugh and install Hamachi... you should cut a deal with them tbh, you will definately boost their business with this whole LAN Only angle.

On another note, excellent work. Keep it up. =]

Uhm;
Off topic, but isn't it time to change topic subject?
You have got a bit longer than packet encryption haven't you?

Yeah, I can't change the topic though as far as I am aware. I was looking to doing shortly after the thread no longer was about encryption.

They can install Hamachi, but I don't believe they will be laughing...
