OdinMS Stability

Aren't we all supposed to be talking about OdinMS's stability?

Anyway, this is about saving, but w/e. Something I've been attempting to code was sort of like a "gradual saving system". Basically the source will detect any data being changed, then when it comes to the saving point, only execute the queries required to update what was changed.

Did anyone get that?

Saving when it needs to? How would you plan that.

Why would that be neccesary when we save at logging out and exiting the game? it would just be as stupid as my anti-rollback system, and yes, I just insulted myself.
But no offence to you, you have some great idea sup your sleeve (referring to your releases)

Because when you change channels and/or log off, everything, even values that have not changed are re-inserted to the DB. Many queries that aren't even required .

MySQL queries would then be faster because the source would only be executing what's needed[/n].

Did that make sense?

Oh and, thanks (: .

I apologize for mistunderstanding, I thought you meant monitoring all accounts and saving them whenever some things are changed that need to be saved, as some frequent backup. but yeah, that makes perfect sense, in fact, do give it to me :O

OdinMS is pretty stable. If it can run for a day straight without any crashes or errors its stable in my opinion. Having 1-2 restarts a day doesn't really hurt anyone. Just type !saveall.

Alot of the time it also depends on whos using the source. Alot of people who don't know anything summon like 2000 monsters which sometimes makes the server crash earlier.

@FateJiki

I like your idea.

is there any server can last for a month without restarting?

I doubt it, Some servers can run a REALLY long time without a restart but eventually they have to. Definitly they can't go 1 month, Thats too long but i'm not saying its impossible.

Some people may figure out a way to do that. Also you need a AMAZING computer to do that to. Not always the source thats the problem.

Personal results :
50 hours uptime.

Problems encountered :
monsters not spawning in ONE single map, is it possible for spawns to get wiped out by being used too much?

Good things :
All other maps, spawns are fine.
Drops function, exp is still being achieved.
1-10% cpu.
2,5 GB ram used (not sur eif this is a good thign or not but.. yeah)

This proves that the normal public sources, when being handled correctly, still have a decent stability.
Using shootsource with some things removed.

There's a glitch with the "Mysterious egg" quest that can kill spawns, so I'd disable that and try it.(Just remove it from Quest.wz)

@raymond
From what I heard Celino runs off a 6GB Linux-based dedi I believe.

nope, celino runs of a vps i think. 4-8gb ram at the max possibly.

6gb Red hat Linux VPS.

Since when **** like LinkedHashMap<MapleQuestStatus, MapleQuest>, XML, WZs for quest are affecting it?

Apparently you don't know how much a server can really hold.
I've talked to a GM in MSEA before, each of their channels are only hosted in a Quad Core 4gb ram server and it's max load is 1200.

There is also a dedicated database server for all the worlds.

I don't see why it's not possible if Nexon developers can do that.

Mines still ok, I removed quest that probaly affected Buddie loading. I used another method to work spawns out.

GMS use Linux?
