I hope you do not see of me as yet another retard, who thinks he'll learn a programming language over-night.

However, I'm quite busy with college, and I have to take private exam, to be able to pass my final year, and it involves PHP. I already got the other requirements covered to pass the test, but as of now, my PHP knowledge isn't something I'd brag about.

I do however think PHP is interesting, being a web-developer myself(partner takes care of server sided coding), and I've always wanted to learn it. I just need an intermediate level of understanding of the language, in the shortest possible span of time.

What do you think is the fastest and the most effective way of learning PHP?

Thanks in advance!

It really comes down to you and how quickly you can learn the language. Don't spend all your time on tutorials though, try and focus more on developing web applications yourself and going from there. Hands-on work is the best way (in my opinion and for myself) to learn.

Why is everyone these days looking for the fastest way to learn a programming language?

Best way to learn is to take your time...

I'm sorry if I anoyed you, but given the position I'm in right now, with work, college, mma. I really don't have much time, and I can't really quit job and school, and I'd rather not stop working out, or else I'll just end up as lazy as I was before I did start working out.

I've already covered W3school basic tutorials, well, I've got some prior knownledge. I just can't beat myself to get back into it, because I don't know where to start. I could do w3schools, but to be honest, you don't learn much from it. I want to learn it in a practical way, situations that I could actually put use of what I've learned.

I can't afford a tutor right now, and where I live, the IT-Industry isn't exactly great.

Thanks for all the inputs guys, I really appreciate it.

Haha, lovely. <3

Got my tutor, but get better soon man. Looking forward to be taught, but meanwhile, I'll be trying to beat myself to get into it, so I actually know what you're doing when you're coding. ;)

Well if you busy most of the time, how do you suppose you'll learn PHP fast? :ott1:

Time is the essence, Like your teacher from Kindergarten, to gr12 and even in post-secondary (college and university), they'll tell you the same thing: rushing slows you down even further.

I think you'll understand what I mean... there's potentially important keys that you will forget when you try rushing, and you'll freeze when it comes to putting it to use.

You'll need alot of time to actually read over some things about the programming language a couple times, then actually have time to play with it, experiment, and so on.

Here are some websites I used to learn PHP (may not be as efficient for you, but almost any book will help you grasp the language):

Google
PHP: PHP Manual - Manual
PHP Tutorial

I design sites and code them for the fun of it as a hobby. Ofcourse, I will set time for it in the weekends. I do understand what you mean, and I comletely agree. The main problem right now, is for me to beat myself to actually getting into it. I just don't know where to start, and there aren't any spesific things I want to do either.
