tPoseidon Trickster Emulator

Version: tPoseidon 0.55.0, PostgreSQL 16
OS: Windows 11
Client Version: kTO 2014

I might have missed a basic step, but the kTO 2014 client distributed on ragezone instantly closes as soon as it opens when I click the Open Client button in the UI. All services have started without issue, so this doesn't seem to be a problem with the emulator but with the kTO client. This was happening before the emulator was released, but I'm not sure what's causing it to do that. The error window that pops up is in a language I can't comprehend. Did you do something to your's to get it to work? I believe you may have tested with the same one I'm using.. I'll try looking for a different client.
Thanks for the report! The client starting and closing right away with a Korean popup is the client refusing to start, so the message itself will tell us why. Could you send:

  1. A screenshot of the error window (even if the text looks like garbage characters).
  2. The file exception.log from your client folder, if there is one. The client writes it when it crashes.
  3. Whether these two files exist in your client's data folder: libconfig_eng.dat and tahoma12.fnt.
  4. Where your client folder is (for example inside Program Files, or on the Desktop).
Also, please don't double-click Trickster.bin or Trickster.exe directly. It needs the start line the panel gives it, otherwise it always shows a Korean "wrong execution method" message and closes. Use the panel's Play button or tposeidon play.

If your antivirus quarantined any file from the client folder, restore it and try again.

Edit:
Could you try setting Windows' language for non-Unicode programs to Korean? Settings → Time & language → Language & region → Administrative language settings → Change system locale → Korean (Korea). Restart, then press Play again. Your Windows stays in English; this only changes how old programs read text.

If it starts after that, let me know. Then we know it's the client needing Korean, and I'll add it to the setup guide.

I'm a Korean user, running Windows 11, and I've carefully followed the installation instructions provided on the GitHub page and in the README file.

However, when I run the tposeidon play command, the game client immediately crashes with an error.

Neither libconfig_eng.dat nor tahoma12.fnt exists in my data folder. Since I'm using the Korean (KR) client, I instead have the Gulim font files (.fnt), along with libconfig.dat and libconfig.idx.

Thanks, that screenshot helps a lot. tPoseidon currently starts the client in English mode, which needs data\libconfig_eng.dat and data\tahoma12.fnt. Your Korean client doesn't have them, so it crashes on start. I'm adding Korean mode so Play works with Korean-only clients. In the meantime you can try this: in your data folder, copy libconfig.dat to libconfig_eng.dat and libconfig.idx to libconfig_eng.idx, and copy gulim12.fnt to tahoma12.fnt. Please tell me if it starts after that.

I only get the error window if I try opening it raw, which I did for the purpose of seeing that window in case it had anything meaningful to say. It does not appear when I try launching it in the UI, but it still crashes. There is no crash log I can find in the client folder even though it probably should have made one when I tried opening the .exe directly..

Changing the system language to korean as instructed and restarting the device did not fix the issue.

The two files you listed do not exist and my conditions seem to match Ggoon's.

I have the client folder inside another folder inside a main folder that has the project files, which is all located on my desktop. They're all in the same folder. (separated of course)

After making copies of the files and running the command again, the error no longer occurs.

However, once the loading bar reaches 100%, the game client simply closes without displaying any error message.

This was part of the reason why I was asking for Raf's libconfig before when I was worried there might be compatibility issues with whatever we threw at it and it being useful as a reference of a properly compatible libconfig in situations like these xD but I do respect your decision not to share any copyrighted material. I am going to try the final eTO client to see if it can load that one too, since they're almost up to date. although it's missing some things from the full Polar release, it might still be able to load what the client has anyway. For people who want to play in english like me, I guess the suggested method is to go searching for a pre-translated english libconfig?

Found it. Your copy of the client is missing three files tPoseidon needs, so it crashes on start. In your client's data folder, copy libconfig.dat to libconfig_eng.dat, libconfig.idx to libconfig_eng.idx, and gulim12.fnt to tahoma12.fnt. Then press Play again. You can switch Windows back to its old language setting; that wasn't the cause. The next update does this automatically.

Sorry, I understand the frustration and I am working hard to make it work. Unfortunately I can't distribute that kind of file within the project otherwise it might be struck down in the future and I want this one to live as long as rAthena.
I'm just taking a small break before even thinking of starting any new project for now

I'll look forward to the next update. I truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication you've put into this project. Thank you!

Thanks! Two quick things:

  1. After it closes, open the log folder in your tPoseidon folder and send the last 10 lines of Kr-Lobby.log.
  2. Roughly how long does the loading bar take to reach 100%? More or less than a minute?

I'm not frustrated. No way I'm feeling anything but respect for you and this project. That was just me referencing what I was talking about in an earlier post; no animosity. Besides, I was going to test the final eTO client regardless xD

I take it this means the problem isn't that it can't read the korean language in the libconfig so it's simply not seeing a specific file name. Renaming them now.

Edit: I just want to further praise the ambitions of this project. Even as I am still getting it to work, I can say that it is way more powerful than I anticipated. Normally you would need to update everything server side, but this.. this doesn't require that anymore. Which also means you can load any properly configured client without needing to mod the server yourself.. it's all client based using the logic of the server to figure out where those files apply to the game. This makes it significantly easier to mod custom servers and speeds up the process of testing them by cutting out a lot of the time spent needing to reload everything with each new change.

You can go to src/tPoseidon.Hosting/HostSettings.cs public string ServiceName { get; set; } = "gsp"; Change "gsp" to anyelse don't blank
I think it should be working.
And use libconfig.dat

Update

v0.55.1
A fix release for clients that would not start. No database changes.

  • Fixed: clients without the English-mode files (data/libconfig_eng.dat, data/libconfig_eng.idx, data/tahoma12.fnt) crashed or closed right after Play. Setup and Play now add them as copies of the client's own libconfig.dat, libconfig.idx and gulim12.fnt.
  • The one-time login pass that Play gives the client now lasts five minutes instead of one, so a client that takes long to load still logs in.

Ggoon, please update to v0.55.1 Beta when it's up on the releases page (within the hour). It adds the missing files for you, and the login pass now lasts 5 minutes, which is the most likely reason your client closed after loading.

If it still closes, please send the last 10 lines of Kr-Lobby.log from the log folder in your tPoseidon folder, and I'll take it from there.

In the process of reloading the files into the latest version. While I'm waiting for that, I want to rule this out.. how long was the original time out condition? The client closes in about a minute of loading before the update.

When I send the last 10 lines, can I exclude my ip address?

Edit: Okay, so I'm getting a few errors with the master server 1 now, but I'm still using the same client I renamed the libconfigs. I'll try with a fresh unmodded copy in case the errors are from it wanting to look for the files to rename.

As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong in the log files. Unfortunately, I'm still experiencing the same issue with version 0.55.1.

My logs are saying the exact same thing. I'll try other clients in the meantime.

From what I can see in the logs your client is not reaching the lobby. I'm investigating this now to see if there's any major difference from the client I used to test, although I also downloaded from the client post here. Will update you shortly

Did you change anything else about it? If it's the raw korean client that was posted around here, you would have needed to translate it, right?

I just tested on a fresh new install in another machine and it worked no problem.
Make sure you downloaded the KR client from here: https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/official-season-2-clients.1049667/
Also don't forget to apply the two updates also available in the same post, first the 2016 one then the 2018. If that doesn't solve it then it's something on your config which would require more testing.

Oh, I believe the one I was using came from here https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/janus-emulator.1263252/ posted by kyoegoist. Was under the impression those two were the same without needing to patch in the other two files. Maybe there is a difference between those two versions.

Edit: Now I'm wondering why people were asking for it if it was listed by Pyro already  That made me think the one that was available wasn't fully up to date even with the two patches.

The first one had some missing files which would crash the client, then those two updates came right after and fixed that
I'm not sure which one the other project uses but there could be a difference in the registry or something similar. I will look into it to make sure the panel accepts different KR clients released here.

Edit: I also tested the other client and it worked fine, so it could definitely be a configuration on your end since the emulator is running without problems, specially with the logs not showing the client connecting to the server and all.
Would be good if someone can say if they got it working without problems to make sure.
