Hey everyone, I'm bored and have alot of spare time.
I can code some VB6 and 2008 and want to use these to create something useful.
I like habbo and wanted to make my own SIMPLE emulator v1 etc so only basic furni works and like moving and then move onto furni and stuff.

If anyone knows of any tutorials etc :D

Please help ;)

Heyhey, we don't all know habbo here, or how it's coded :P:.
I suggest you learn to script in another language, with more of a challenge, you've got basic knowledge.
C# or C++ perhaps? Or do web-scripting like PHP, HTML (which isn't really a language, but fine).

VB.NET and maybe some open gl tutorials for VB, but your going to run into problems. The file size will get huge, there will be a downgrade in efficiency of code, and you will run into various networking issues that, tbh, C++ covers and fixes. Learn C# because its a step up from C++ and itll get you ready to code.

Be useful and help out maybe the wow development section.

If you insist on coding in VB, start to make game launchers and editors for games with it. Start there because a multisocket network game is too much atm, also look into making some RPGs with VB, then work up to online chat system and then the game. By the time you get to your habbo project, or w.e. you want to do, youll find you can make your own game pretty solid, just not graphics wise unless your talented in 3d modeling.

Thanks everyone for commenting :) I've tried C# but I use C# VB EE and I don't know where to start with C++ & C# Normal because VB changes the codeing alittle bit?

And help with compilers for C++ & C# and what to use / best program to help me :)
Thanks,
Mike

yes learn PHP :D
off topic;
pshh php is the only language :D

I know C#, but never programmed anything in C++ as I heard that C# is superior to C++.. Is there a reason to learn C++?

There is. I don't know who told you C# > C++, but it's a big lie. C++ is used for almost any self-respectable game. So if you were to make games, industry scale, C++ is the way to go.

I was going to learn C#, but since it's obligated (?) to use .NET framework, I resist on using it (if this is not the case, I will learn it though). .NET is incredibly clumsy and slow, not something you want to use for a game or something that needs high performance (like any of my code).

C# isn't too bad though, so it's good to master it :)

C# is quite young and has many users for it's age, also it has been said that C# has way better OO support then C++.

That is true. C++ is multi-functional, not only OO. Which makes it a great multi-purpose language, for algorithms, games, servers...anything. C# has great OO support indeed, but has it's own downsides.

Microsoft is putting lots of money into it, no wonder it's popular. It sure is a good language to master, but so is C/C++ and ASM ;-), or Java eventually...

Can someone help me with getting a C++ Builder
Or something easy to use, where I have to create everything from scratch.
Not VB C++ / C# But something like I make .txt and rename it like "name.cs" and I goto cmd and put in csc name.cs?

"Way better OO support" ?

This is just patently false. C++ is *THE* standard language for OOP. No other language quite matches its level of flexibility in this area, they all strip away features it has.

To OP:

Use C++ for this. Don't bother with C#, it is not suited for this. C# is and was designed for RAD, namely for GUIs. It was *NOT* designed for anything else. It's just psuedo-C++ style syntax (with no standards conformance and 40% of the language stripped away) that interfaces with the .NET framework. You will be regarded as a total noob if you pursue it :).

Why?

A C# developer cannot program in C++, however a C++ developer can program in C# with ease.

Thats why im here :P:P

And to topic poster,..I consider if your a "newbie" to coding languages and want to make your own private habbo server i suggest downloading VB6 and getting a Source such as "USA111", as you wont be able to start from scrathc on yyour own unless you know habbo packets, how to log habbo or even how to code, USA111 is a fine example (full V13) source of habbo and is great for many starters, This is how i learnt VB6...NEed anymore help? feel free to PM me

(Wow longest post done in a while :P)

Bother to do some more research on this... since your story doesn't quite end up... Also there's no such thing as a C# developer or a C++ developer, a decent programmer masters more than 1 language.

MOST people never master C++. Even with 15 years of programming experience.

C# and Java can be mastered in a year or two because they cut out all of the powerful features of C++. It's like making a BMW clone with the same body but using a 2.0L 4 cylinder 100HP engine, manual windows & locks, 4 gear manual shift, no CD player, no AIR, and no luxuries. Sure, you cloned a BMW to the outside viewer, but it is nowhere close to a real BMW.

I'm tired of all the bull C++ fanboys say about C# and the CLR.

We've been over this, .NET isn't all that big, nor is it clumsy or slow. Also, unless you're working with such a performance sensitive application (as in, a millisecond matters), .NET is just fine.

Use C++ for this. Don't bother with C#, it is not suited for this. C# is and was designed for RAD, namely for GUIs. It was *NOT* designed for anything else. I think it's evident you don't have a clue about C#. It was not designed for RAD or GUIs. It was designed to be a new modern language, without all the unnecessary complexities of the very outdated C++ language. It was designed with making the lives of developers easier.

Why?

A C# developer cannot program in C++, however a C++ developer can program in C# with ease.

No. You're like a kid who grew up in a house and never went outside. You see what's there, but you've never experienced it for yourself. Fact is, most C++ developers can't program in C# with ease. As a matter of fact, I was having a hard time learning C++, that is, until I learned C#. After that, C++ suddenly became a breeze.

You're wrong. C# is just like C++, most people never master it. It's just that with C#, it's harder for someone to screw up big time than it is with C++. Also, what "powerful features"? Multiple inheritance? Manual memory management? Templates? Macros? You think C# sucks because it doesn't have some of the "powerful features" that C++ has. Well I've got news for you buddy, C++ doesn't have any of the "powerful features" C# has to offer.

I use both C# and C++, and I can tell you, when it comes down to a real world project (unless as mentioned above, for a game, performance sensitive software, or other really special cases), C# is the obvious choice.
