Doing the math with shipping and customs etc, turns out I'll be paying for a DDR5 setup.Did you wind up grabbing that (first one)? {I see it's gone now}..

I do not understand, I've run the same 155 server for several years now with less than 32 gb ram.
Method used for starting the maps matters.
I can say most of the servers listed and specifications are actually pretty accurate.Well I'm pretty sure you guys know way more than I do regarding this, as I just got started not too long ago. so I rather ask the experienced ones first, get their opinions on things before I dig and do the trial & error thing myself.
I currently run server (through pwAdmin page) using the prebuilt script that runs main world map only, then I select and run the rest of needed maps.
I appreciate the thorough explanation! Yes indeed, its mainly Processor and RAM that matters the most when running a server. Well and RGB helps a bit too!I can say most of the servers listed and specifications are actually pretty accurate.
A big issue with games in general is ram and CPU usage.
Programming related issues on many servers and clients are hard to fix if they are not fully reverse engineered.
Running an unoptimized game vs a modified and professional refactoring you can shave off gigabytes of ram, CPU overhead by optimized mathematics and logic flows. Ie. Sorting, arrays vs array list etc. searching also causes issues if it's unoptimized.
All this matters much more at scale, networking is a whole lotta fun too, hikari cp or similar for pooling connections and so on
I mentioned this because factor this in when choosing not all games and home labs require 128GB plus of ram.
CPU is another big focus, is the clock speed, hyper threading or AMD more ram with ecc and 8+ cores 16+ threads in a great server spec to look at.
Drives can be bought later as needed unless cost is not a major concern. I have 30 or so wd reds 3-6TB in a sealed box as backups.
Anyways hope this helps a bit more also places to buy. eBay is decent just be careful I use eBay frequently for most things.
Had bad luck with Newegg most of the time, same with similar sites.
Just keep an eye out if it's too cheap it's probably a sale or a scam always one of the two lol.
What's local to you?I appreciate the thorough explanation! Yes indeed, its mainly Processor and RAM that matters the most when running a server. Well and RGB helps a bit too!
Storage is the least of my concerns as I have over 150TB worth of drives. SATA, SAS, and M.2 ones.
Sadly I don't have source files to play with (are they even available? haven't looked tbh), but I'm using 343's files which seems to be pretty nicely done.
Currently running v155 with 64GB of RAM and its getting the job done, maps being loaded on-demand to be safe, with about 5-10 users online throughout the day.
Sadly can't do Ebay nor NewEgg due to where I currently live. shipping and customs fees are crazy high for me, as I've mentioned earlier in this thread. my experience with NewEgg's been terrible (PC parts and photography gear) anyway so that's off the list for me. so my best bet is finding something better locally or Ebay if I run out of nearby choices.

LOL that's fine since I kind of deserve it.Indeed, you "haven't looked" LOL *MANY* of the source(s) release(s) are within my PW_DEV.iso
they can be found in /PW_DEV/1.5.x/_SOURCES
not too sure since I haven't poked around them myself but I am pretty sure those are going to be pretty much all the source(s) release(s) except the client (I don't think the client is in there)...
---add---
Definitely not poking fun at you or anything (not making fun of you) but; no really, ya didn't look, 'cuz they sitting right in front of you (hiding in plain sight). I don't recall for sure all of what's in there. Client MAY actually be in there too!
I started poking around to try to locate all the various downloads/threads that would be in /PW_DEV/1.5.x/_SOURCES
And so far I have come up with (all the below are INCLUDED in there ~ and more):
Code:https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/source-pwi-server-files-source-code-up-to-1-5-3.1163330/ https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/source-pwi-client-side-source-code.1163510/ https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/releasing-lets-start-with-warm-up.1163296/ https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/dysil-developer-client.1164377/ https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/angelica-engine-2-0-sdk.1163068/ https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/tuesday-time-for-more-fun.1163349/ https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/how-to-solve-the-problem-that-the-equipment-id-greater-than-65535-is-not-visible.1156122/#post-8950968

I have officially retired from the anything to do with the Forsaken World private servers.
Given this, I have made choice to release over time things of value, with the sincere hope that those who possess the dedication and ability to make use of these things -- will do so.

Hi,
I created using all open source tools a solution that will automatically modify your gs as required.
Here is a link:To view the content, you need to sign in or register
It must be run from Linux or MacOS ... Python 2.7 needs to be installed. Please see the howto.txt inside of the elfpatch.7z for instructions

Undo the static initialize modification back to 0xffff .. sorry about that, memory is rusty =)
LOL that's fine since I kind of deserve it.but in all honesty, getting into something totally new can make even simple things confusing.
For some reason my PW_DEV's missing many files including these. downloaded it again today earlier to find a lot of new tools.
That's the best way to handle it.I personally also HATE bloat, prime example new phone purchases or new PC purchases. However my goal with this "package" of mine is that ~ you could load it all onto a 'thumb-drive' or BRD or multiple DVD's/CD's etc and hand it to someone and they'd be able to do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING they want without even needing an internet connection. From the server to the client to the tools. That's why I'm pretty sure I even started throwing (bloat) like 010 editor and even VMware and vbox in to the PW_DEV.iso. It's stuff that even I would consider "bloat" but again, I want this package to "work" into the posterity of "forever"... Even if you blew up the interwebs tomorrow. Someone with this package would be able to get a PW server up and running with ZERO external dependencies!!!
THAT is why it is so "bloated" (at this point)!!!
Yeah IIRC I even have GIMP in there (to edit gfx/dds/etc)
Pretty much everything to not only get a server/client up and running ~ but also everything you would need to essentially "re-brand" the game too (make your own game "over" or "in place of" PW)!!! Making "the sky the limit"!
What's local to you?
Also I agree I don't think they had source code available but it was worth mentioning even after I was reviewing what I typed.
I wish it did as many issues can be fixed with the source code and a sound method for fixing problems.
You might be able to optimize the database if there's heavy load as well I know I was able to using gunZ and a few others but it's hit or miss. Most it's maybe a few 100 mb to 1gb max at heavy loads
Jordan is a rough place to find decent shipping points. its going to take a bit longer than i thought if i am being honest. He's in/near Jordan BTW (see post #13)
lets see how that goes!I personally also HATE bloat, prime example new phone purchases or new PC purchases. However my goal with this "package" of mine is that ~ you could load it all onto a 'thumb-drive' or BRD or multiple DVD's/CD's etc and hand it to someone and they'd be able to do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING they want without even needing an internet connection. sadly yes but oh wellJordan is a rough place to find decent shipping points. its going to take a bit longer than i thought if i am being honest.
If you're talking about the method of starting them all in a single command (like that of POST #2 in this thread https://forum.ragezone.com/threads/155-server-specs.1259447/#post-9424289) then that - at least in my own experience and testing; is not "safe" or "reliable"...
