Janus Emulator

Hi, I’m currently working on a Season 2 Trickster server and would like to keep the S2 server/client as the main base because it already contains the Chinese content.

My goal is to add Paula (Polar Bear) support to the S2 server rather than replacing the entire server with Janus.

Would it be technically possible to use Janus as a reference and port the Paula-related implementation into the old S2 server?

Hmm... If you’re talking about the Polar Bear skills, I wouldn’t recommend it.
But if you mean the systems in general, I believe it should be possible to use future versions of Janus as a reference for those systems.

Please do not use this client for commercial purposes. It is for testing and debugging only.

Sorry, this was my mistake. It’s resolved now. Thank you!

Try it

Hi, and thank you so much for making ProjectPAULA and for sharing the client with me. I really appreciate your work, and I’m happy to say the game now works for me!

First, a quick update on my earlier login problem. I couldn’t log in with the accounts admin and test, but after I created a new account with tools\add-account.bat 1 1, I could log in with it without any problem. I’m not sure why, and it was most likely a mistake on my side, so sorry for the confusion.

Now I have a question about Korean text, if you don’t mind. I’m Korean, so I would really like to play in Korean, including using Korean for NPC names, monster names, dialog, and my character name.

The client that works for me is Client_Janus, but NPC names, monster names, and the dialog when I click an NPC (quests too) are all in English.

I tried two things:

  1. I used the Korean client folder and replaced only its Trickster.bin with the working one. Almost everything else is in Korean, but NPC names, monster names, and NPC dialog are still English.
  2. I put the Korean libconfig files into Client_Janus. The result is the same as the first one: most of the UI is in Korean, but NPC names, monster names, and NPC dialog are still English.

The libconfig files are written in Korean, so I don’t understand why these texts still show up in English. Do NPC names, monster names, and NPC dialog come from the server instead of the client files? If so, is there a way to switch them to Korean?

Also, I can’t use Korean character names. I’m not sure whether this is a limitation or something that can be changed, so I just wanted to ask how it works.

Thank you again for your time and for this great project. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Best regards

Language is stored in libconfig. This is not a recommended way of doing things as there may be compatibility issues, but due to how closely linked this project is with the original files, it should have a higher chance of syncing up correctly..

Go into your Janus client folder and make a backup copy of your libconfig.dat and libconfig.idx somewhere else just in case.
Go to your kTO2014 client, the one you were originally trying to use.
Copy that version's libconfig.dat and libconfig.idx
Paste into and replace those two files of the same name from your Janus client Data folder.
Try loading the client again. If you encounter a problem, just revert the change with your backed up files.

Not sure why your game was still half korean even though the Janus client's libconfig is translated.. that intrigues me.

Edit: whoops, not sure if I missed you saying you already did this or you edited it without me noticing xD sorry.

Did you try rebooting the server after your change?

The server is currently in English, but Korean support is coming tomorrow, I promise!
Some names are sent through packets, so if the database is in English, they’ll appear in English too.

Also, please don’t report issues here. Use instead.

I'm a bit confused on these startup instructions. It says all I need are MariaDB and the visual c++, but then it says I need to change the settings in install-db.bat which references mysql.. do I need mysql as well? The only thing I've made was the login while downloading mariaDB.

MariaDB is MySQL
So I set MariaDB's file path into where it says "mysql=" but it says it's not an internal or external command

Edit: ah, I'm not sure if this did it, but at least it runs now after running the client first.

It's saying mysql.broadcast does not exist.. what is this?
