hi peeps n peepesseseseses

make sure you have the right client for the server you are using... get the wrong one and you tend to get connection closed.

i've finally sussed out and got TD's files running.. wahoo.

i shall now shed the info:p

the m$ sql was the problem, for them poor soles, that includes me, that dont run windows server (server 2000, server 2003, develop *i think)) you cant use sql 2005 enterprise. I have machines running win xp pro - home and media editions, and took a while to sort it.

express 2005 is the freebee but it is very very restrictive, 1 cpu and lots of limits.. well its their hook thing, get you to buy standard. The only one i had luck with was sql 2005 standard, and it runs like a dream. This supports xp.

According to m$ website they dont have any intentions in taking sql to Vista!!

For those beginners, along with the original client you are going to need more files... the map files from the 1.9 download doesnt have them all and the data files are the same.

I'm having probs with the data files as over 3 different client setups, the all use different data. The best i've seen if what i used with ragezone:p thanks Mental..

If you can move over to sql, then adding maps etc is a doddle, no messing with text editors.

I forget the last post... it's a little confusing gamegate and rungate, it mentions game but use the rungate.

as the error mentions address and socket, you may have missed an address in m2server file.

There arent that many files, go through them with notepad and do a search for 192.168 and see if you missed any.

I'm pretty sure that the M2server.exe ( the one with the round orange icon ) is some form of virus =/ Either that or my pc didn't like it and made it dissapear, then up popped a virus warning lol.

Cant be. Maybe there's a trojan spreading on your comp. I downloaded the files onto my system and there was no virus detected. Scan your comp.

I restore my chardb fine. But the bit after that in the guide tells me how to edit it so Im a GM... well I dont appear to have a admin table at all. Tried redoing the databases 5-6 times now but still arent appearing.

Yeah its bound to be something really stupid. Never used MsSQL before tbh.

I only have Tbl_CharInfo, Tbl_CharList, TBL_KEEPALIVE, Tbl_StatusArray, Tbl_UserItems and Tbl_UserMagic.

Surely there should be everything like mongen, stditems, monsters and so on...

Help please ;)

in the dbserver folder, theres chardb for 1 table,,datadb for another table,, or i think the lom2fulldb i created that has all the tables in it,if you use a single db setup

if your using 2 databases then i guess mongen ect are in the datadb

Hi guys, seem to be having a problem being able to connect :(

All the server files startup just fine (a mapquest.txt error comes up tho) but when I try to login I'm getting a can't connect error.

Have followed the instructions to the letter but do have one query.

Your guide clearly shows the sql database as being mir2 in both the dbserv.ini and the setup.ini yet further down towards the end it says to change them to chardb and datadb ??

Can you please elaborate a little as to what should go where please

There is a section at the bottom of the guide that says you have to perform steps 7 - 13 twice! This is very vague and does not really say much at all.

Thanks in advance

yes that was an oldish setup guide.

there are 2 versions of the database, 2 files n 1 file.

if you use the combined file then you need only do it once.

if you use the other files, then treat them as 2 database; 1 in dbserver and the other in m2server.

i think its charcter goes to dbserver and data goes for mserver.

so you need to edit dbserver dbase name, password, user to the one for character database in dbserver.ini.

in setup.txt, in m2server, you need to give the details you gave you gave for that database. database name, password and username.
