About Infestation Help

Troubleshooting for Infestation server owners across 3.2.4 - connection errors, database problems, client crashes and configuration mistakes.

Most problems posted here come down to a handful of causes: the client pointing at the wrong address, a database the server cannot reach, a missing runtime library, or a port that was never opened. Search before posting - the same Infestation errors come up often and usually already have an answer.

Infestation: Survivor Stories, also called WarZ and I:SS, has carried private server, server files, source, emulator and server setup work since 2013. Sources split across Terrain V3 and TerrainV2: WarZTH v2 and v3, Codex and Codexpo, Doom MMO, Untouched I:SS, ActivityZ, HispanoZ, CastZ, InfectZ, Infestation Reloaded and the Community Edition, with Studio.exe map editing, Flash FrontEnd.swf front ends, .sco and .scb meshes and ItemDB.xml weapons. Compiling wants Visual Studio 2008 SP1, DirectX SDK, PhysX 3.2.3 or 3.2.5 with APEX 1.2.3 for vehicles, SQL 2008 and IIS 7 with PHP. Built sources set to 127.0.0.1 run locally on extraction, and licensed anti-cheat, HackShield or GHP, gets stripped from WinMain.cpp.

Common questions

How do I fix the HackShield error 512 in Infestation?
The error names the HShield folder as missing. Copy HShield from the WZ\bin folder into the folder the client is actually launched from, and if a third-party launcher is in use it has to ship that folder too. On private servers the licensed anti-cheat is more often stripped out of WinMain.cpp altogether, since HackShield and GHP both expect a licence the files do not carry.
Why does Infestation report a problem downloading from the CDN server?
The client is being pointed at localhost instead of the address it can actually reach. Edit wz.xml and replace localhost with the server address. Built sources are set to 127.0.0.1 on extraction, which is why a server that works on the machine it was built on fails the moment anybody else connects to it.
What causes Backpack Change Failed Code 6 in Infestation?
Code 6 means the server did not see a backpack for that character - either the session was interrupted, the character state is wrong server side, or the row is missing from the database. Restarting the master and supervisor servers clears the first two. If it survives a restart, the character's inventory data in the database is what to look at.
