About Tera Help

Troubleshooting for Tera server owners across 100.02 and 92.03 - connection errors, database problems, client crashes and configuration mistakes.

Most problems posted here come down to a handful of causes: the client pointing at the wrong address, a database the server cannot reach, a missing runtime library, or a port that was never opened. Search before posting - the same Tera errors come up often and usually already have an answer.

TERA private servers split between retail server files and Java emulators. Retail patches 31.04 (The Fate of Arun), 71.03 EME (proto. 333782), 92.03, 92.04 and 100.02 run an Arbiter server on MSSQL - PlanetDB, SharedDB, CollectionDB, LogDB - with Steer and Box for Item Claim (Python 2.6 x86, MySQL 5.7), an IIS WebApp, a server-side proxy, and a node.js TERA API with Arbiter, Portal, Shop and Admin Panel on separate ports. One 100.02 VM pairs Windows Server 2022 with SQL Server 2019. Java releases include Tera-Shock rev. 218413, Tera Project rev. 1725, Jenova and TJServer. Setup covers DataCenter unpacking, OpCode scanning, GM commands and hex-editing the launcher to localhost.

Common questions

Why will my Tera client not connect to the server?
Nearly always the address the client is pointed at. On many builds the server address sits inside a packed client file rather than a plain text config, so it has to be edited there. Check as well that the server is listening and the port is actually open.
Why will my Tera server not start?
Usually a database it cannot log in to, a missing runtime, or a port already in use by something else. The server console or log normally names the cause on the first failure, and the processes often have to be started in a particular order.
How do I get a useful answer about Tera here?
Post the Tera build you are running, the file set you used, the exact error text and what you have already tried. Threads with that detail get answered; vague ones usually do not.
